Transferring audio assets to Wwise

To configure the render from REAPER:

  1. In your REAPER project, select the audio assets to transfer to Wwise. For information about using REAPER, see the REAPER User Guide.

  2. From the menu, click File > Render (Ctrl+Alt+R), and in the Render to File dialog configure the render.

  3. You can use free text or Wildcards, or a combination of both, to populate the File name. Click Wildcards to see possible REAPER wildcards. A preview of the first file is shown in the Render to field.

  4. After you have selected audio assets to transfer, the button to the right of the Render to field shows the number of files to be transferred. Click it to view those files. In the following example two files are to be transferred.

  5. Click Save Settings. Click Save Settings each time you change a setting in this dialog to communicate the changed information to ReaWwise.

To configure ReaWwise:

  1. Open your project in Wwise Authoring, and select a node in the hierarchy to transfer the audio assets into.

  2. In the REAPER menu, click Extensions > ReaWwise to open ReaWwise.

  3. In ReaWwise, the Originals Subfolder is by default the path <Original Audio Files>/SFX, where <Original Audio Files> is set in the Wwise Project Settings. The full path is not shown. Click Browse to view it. Click Wildcards to add subfolders to the path of the Originals Subfolder.

  4. To the right of Import Destination, click Sync with selected object in Wwise . This sets the import destination to the node selected in Step 1. You can reset it in Wwise, after which you must sync again in ReaWwise. You can also change the path by typing in the text field. If the destination is invalid, the text field border becomes red.

  5. In the Wwise Structures section, configure the Wwise object hierarchy to be created for the transferred audio assets. Each row in the table represents a level in the Wwise object hierarchy, with higher rows being further up the hierarchy. Rows are listed with their Object Type, Object Name, and Property Template Path. You can add , remove , and reorder rows. With a row selected, set its properties under Selected Row Properties. As you update the rows, a preview is shown in the panel below. Row properties are:

    • Object Type: Wwise hierarchy object type. Choose one from the list.

    • Object Name: Name of the object. Can be populated with free text, Wildcards, or a combination of both. Click Wildcards to see possible REAPER wildcards.

    • Use Property Template: Copies properties from a Wwise object to a selected row. To use, in Wwise Authoring, select the an object in the Project Explorer, then click Sync with selected object in Wwise .

Apply Template: When to apply a property template to transferred objects.

      • Always. Applies the template properties to new and existing sounds.

      • New Object Creation Only. Applies the template properties to new objects only.

  6. In If Sound Name Exists, choose an option for the handling of duplicate sound names:

    • Use Existing. Retains the existing sounds but adds the transferred files as source audio files. The new files do not become the main audio sources for the existing objects unless they have identical names to the existing sources, and therefore overwrite them.

    • Create New. Creates new sounds with increments appended to the names. The existing sounds are not affected, unless the existing audio sources have the same names as the newly transferred files. In that case, the new sources overwrite the existing ones.

    • Replace. Deletes and recreates the sounds, with the transferred files as sources.

You can save and reuse Wwise structures. To Save the current structure, click Manage Presets , then Save Preset. To reuse a structure, click Manage Presets, then click Load.

To execute the transfer

ReaWwise uses absolute object paths to transfer items from REAPER into Wwise. Any object in the path that does not exist in Wwise is created during the transfer. If the object hierarchy defined in ReaWwise results in object paths that contain one or more ancestors that already exist in Wwise, then the existing object types are not changed during the transfer.

  1. In ReaWwise, click Transfer to Wwise. Depending on your settings, you may be prompted for file conflict settings. A REAPER window opens, displaying the transfer progress.

  2. When the transfer is complete, the REAPER window closes and the Action Required dialog appears. Click Continue.

  3. A summary dialog appears. To view the Wwise Import Summary in your web browser, click View Details.

To transfer the same files multiple times

If you transfer the same files from REAPER to Wwise multiple times, you must decide whether to overwrite the previously transferred files.

  1. The first time you attempt to transfer the same files, the Render Warning dialog opens.

  2. Choose among the following options:

    • Overwrite: Replaces existing files.

    • Increment filenames: Keeps the existing files and transfers new versions of the files, adding an increment number to each filename.

    • Always silently increment filenames to avoid overwriting: Always performs the Increment filenames function.

To disable this option, in REAPER click File > Render to open the Render to File dialog, and clear Silently increment filenames to avoid overwriting.

To transfer files to other machines

You can transfer files to other machines on the same network.

  1. Click the gear icon to open WAAPI Network Transfer Settings window.

  2. Select Enable Cross Machine Transfer, and set the WAAPI IP Address and WAAPI Port to the destination machine.

  3. In Wwise Authoring, open the destination Wwise project.

  4. From the menu bar click Project > User Preferences and configure the following options:

    • Select Enable Wwise Authoring API.

    • In the Allow connection from box, type the IP address of the machine that is running ReaWwise. To add multiple machines, separate IP addresses with commas.

    • Set the WAMP port to the same value as the WAAPI port in the ReaWwise WAAPI Network Transfer Settings window.

  5. Transfer files as described in the preceding procedures in this topic.
