Typical Workflow

After completing the Installation and Setup, you're ready to start using Strata. This section helps you integrate Strata into your existing workflow.

[Note]Note

Refer to REAPER Reference to learn essential REAPER terminology.

Opening Collections in REAPER

After Downloading Strata Collections, you are ready to open them.

  1. In the Audiokinetic Launcher, select the Strata page.

  2. For the desired collection, click the three-dots, and then click Open Containing Folder.

  3. In the system file browser that opens, open the <CollectionName> folder, and then double-click the <CollectionName>.rpp file.

The project opens in REAPER. You can listen to the collection's rendered files, or by double-clicking on the project track items, open any of the subprojects.

    [Note]Note

The first time you open a Strata collection, by default, REAPER builds the peak files for the audio files in the collection. For very large collections, such as Physics and Footsteps, this can take several minutes, and REAPER is slow to respond during this time. Depending on the REAPER peaks settings, a dialog might open indicating the progress. The next time you open the project will be significantly faster. The average open time for Strata REAPER projects is less than two seconds on most modern computers.

In the following example, a Strata collection is open in the main window. The REAPER Region/Marker Manager, which you can open from the View menu, is docked at the right and the Media Explorer is docked at the bottom. The main output fader is visible and the transport is docked at the top left of the main window.

Subproject track and rendered media items reference track.

Subproject media item. Double-click to open the subproject.

Media items. The contents of the subproject, which consist of a collection or rendered media source files.

Regions. Areas of the main project color-coded by subproject, tracks, and media items.

Before Editing

After opening a collection, you might want to modify the sounds to suit your needs. We recommend you first save a copy of the REAPER project and modify the default render destination.

  1. From the menu bar, click File > Save project as (Ctrl+Alt+S).

  2. Change the file name and click Save. For example, you could add your initials or a version number to the end of the file name.

  3. From the menu bar, click File > Render (Ctrl+Alt+R).

The Render to File dialog opens.

  4. In the Directory field, change the default folder name. For example, you could add your initials and a version number to the end resulting in "Rendered ABC 1".

After Editing

All Strata subprojects are setup to use Render Selected Regions and will automatically generate a complete UCS filename and insert extensive metadata.

  1. Hold the Ctrl key and select all the regions you want to render.

  2. From the menu bar, click File > Render (Ctrl+Alt+R).

The Render to File dialog opens.

  3. Click Render N files.

    The selected regions are rendered.

For further details on rendering files, see Rendering Audio Files.
