Free Wwise Indie License | Empowering Indie Developers with Audio Excellence

Game Audio

Creating an immersive game audio experience that matches your project vision can be a challenge, especially for indie developers with budget limitations. This is why Audiokinetic's Wwise provides a powerful solution with its free licensing model made for indie developers. In this blog post, we'll break down what the Wwise indie license is and how you can leverage this audio middleware for free to enhance your projects.

Free Wwise 2

What is Wwise?

Wwise, developed by Audiokinetic, is a comprehensive audio middleware solution that offers a robust set of tools for audio integration, sound design, and interactive audio management. By using Wwise, developers can create dynamic and immersive soundscapes, adding depth and realism to their games.

The Wwise Indie License Explained

Is the Free License Any Different?

To support the indie game development community, Audiokinetic created a free licensing model for Wwise. This license has been designed to make high-quality audio tools available to smaller studios and individual developers, with no asset limit. The aim is to enable smaller teams to compete with larger studios in terms of sound quality and interactive audio capabilities.

How Do I Qualify?

To qualify for the Wwise indie license, a game's total production budget must be under 250,000 USD. This threshold ensures that the license is available to genuinely small and independent developers.

What Does the Free License Include?

The Wwise free Indie license includes full platform access with unlimited sounds, just as all other commercial plans. This means indie developers are able to leverage all the same advanced technology-forward, feature-forward interactive audio environments as AAA games. Have access to powerful runtime performance profiling, scalable development workflows, and stability-ensured production. This includes Authoring, Dynamic Mixing, advanced Spatial Audio features, and interactive music systems.

Note that while the console licensing is free at the indie tier, developers will have to validate their developer status in order to gain access. Our licensing team can help you out with that! Use the “Contact your Audiokinetic Representative” button in your project to get in touch.
