This partnership signifies the beginning of many avant-garde audio ventures in the works for the upcoming years. Over the next year, we will be progressively announcing our partnership plans, which will include international collaborations and research initiatives focused on the development and advancement of the immersive experience and 3D audio innovations. Leveraging Audiokinetic’s leadership in interactive audio technology and the prominent SAT dome; various spatial audio experiments will provide our community of researchers, developers, artists, and designers worldwide with the opportunity to join us as we transform interactive audio and immersive reality.

We are excited to commence this partnership with Audiokinetic’s sponsorship of the 2016 IX Symposium. Beyond being the official premium sponsors of the IX Symposium this year, Audiokinetic’s Simon Ashby and Xavier Buffoni will be concluding the workshop series with an enlightening event at the Satosphere, where they will be exploring Spatial Audio for Interactive Media.

About IX

For those who have attended the IX Symposium in the past, and especially for those who haven't, this year is sure to bring plenty of insight and innovation with talks and workshops by world renowned experts lined up. Audio will be taking center stage this year! We will explore the latest audio innovations, considerations and applications as we focus on the establishment of powerful immersive experiences via spatial audio advancements and implications. Topics will include Spherical, Ambisonics & Spatial Capture; Procedural Audio & Interactive Scenes; Virtual Acoustics and Augmented Experiences; and many more around developments in immersive technology, spherical stereo image capture, and head-mounted displays and mapping solutions in the context of interactive design and gaming.

In the past, IX has welcomed artists, designers, researchers, developers and enthusiasts who are passionate about the immersive experience and its creative mediums. This year will be no different! The IX Symposium is a leading international ‘think lab’ surrounded by a vibrant international community who look to this event of the year for the unveiling of new developments, tools, practices and processes that empower brilliant innovations.

This year’s program will put a much stronger emphasis on participation with interactive workshops, demos, and artwork premieres. The goal of these events is to develop and establish a set of best practices for the creation of immersive sound and cross-platform imagery. Those who attend and participate in the IX Symposium 2016 will be encouraged to collaborate and learn from one another as we shape and foster the mediums that will nurture our progress towards immersive experiences.

Audiokinetic Workshop – Spatial Audio for Interactive Media

This workshop will focus on some of the most prominent challenges and obstacles faced when designing interactive audio for different media and rendering set-ups. Beginning with a brief examination of what defines interactive audio, we will go on to explore the applications of large-scale interactive audio productions, such as video games. The presentation will specifically address different tools designers can use to plan and organize multiple projects ranging from VR to specialized speaker set-ups for museums, commercial installations, and more.

Finally, the workshop will close with live experiments on spatial audio powered by Wwise. We will explore spatial transformations of ambisonics and reverberation, and differences between VBAP and ambisonic panning.

Join Us!

With the recent advancements in sound rendering technologies, this year’s IX Symposium will highlight some of the artistic challenges that have developed out of this new paradigm. How can we connect our experiences with spatial audio to newly developed real-time technologies? How are visual artists adapting their skills to new, immersive worlds? Join us at IX symposium 2016!
